Why We Choose 100% Cotton

Health Advantages
Synthetic tops may look harmless, but many are finished with formaldehyde resins, azo dyes, and other irritants. Every tumble in the dryer or rub against your skin sheds microscopic plastic threads that can be inhaled and lodge into lung tissue, potentially triggering inflammation and respiratory stress. Researchers have linked these microfiber fragments to chronic irritation in both occupational workers and everyday wearers.
Because cotton is a plant-based fiber, it comes free of petroleum-derived monomers and, when certified organic, skips most harsh finishing chemicals. This is good news if you have sensitive skin.
Comfort & Breathability
Cotton fibers are naturally hollow and hygroscopic—they wick perspiration away from your skin and let it evaporate, so you stay cool instead of clammy. In recent textile-lab tests, cotton fabrics absorbed several times more moisture than synthetics while still allowing vapor to pass through the weave, which translated into lower skin temperatures and a “drier” sensation for wearers.
Add the intrinsic softness of cellulose fibers (they bend instead of scratch) and the fact that cotton drapes without trapping hot air, and you get a fabric that feels like it’s working with your body, not against it.
Planetary Perspective
Production: Polyester and nylon begin as crude oil or fracked gas, demanding high heat and energy to polymerize—roughly twice the carbon footprint of an equivalent cotton tee.
Washing: A single load of polyester workout gear can release more than 20,000 micro-plastic fibers into wastewater. These fragments are now turning up in rivers, seafood, and our bloodstreams.
End of life: Only about 13% of clothing is recycled in the U.S. Chemically splitting blended synthetics back into pure polymers is still niche and energy-intensive. Most plastic garments head to landfill or incineration, where they persist for centuries.
The Cotton Difference—A Gentle Nudge
Choosing 100% cotton means supporting a fiber that can be grown renewably and breaks down naturally at end of life. On your skin it breathes, bends, and stays fresh.
Our store carries everything from buttery-soft tees to performance knits spun entirely from cotton. Try swapping one synthetic piece in your closet for cotton this week. Your skin, your washer filter, and the planet will all thank you. 🌿
